Department/Project Overview The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego (BGCGSD or Clubs) is a non-profit organization that CHANGES LIVES through quality programs and guidance in a safe, affordable, and fun environment. BGCGSD’s mission is to inspire and enable youth to achieve academic success, build good character and responsible citizenship, and make healthy lifestyle choices. We have been providing a safe, fun, and positive environment at our 23 sites with trained and dedicated professional staff for nearly 85 years. Members are involved in age-appropriate activities based upon our priority outcomes of Academic Success, Character Development, and Healthy Lifestyles. Position Overview The President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for leading and managing the strategic direction, operations, and finances of the Clubs, consistent with its mission. The President/CEO shall exercise final authority on all matters related to Club staff and members, work in collaboration with the Board of Directors and Executive Committee to raise funds and set revenue generation strategy and goals, allocate sufficient resources to sustain the Clubs' mission and operational requirements and help preserve and grow Foundation assets. The President/CEO will serve as a role model to staff establish policies and procedures for the organization, manage and mentor staff, raise awareness of the Clubs though cutting-edge marketing and brand initiatives, and work, with volunteers, Committee and Board members and community leaders to promote the Clubs mission in accordance with best practices. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Function Name/Tasks

1. FUNDRAISING

Provide executive leadership to secure significant investments from high-net-worth individuals, foundations, and corporations. Personally develop a network of donors and generate significant new funds per year from new personal contacts. Ensure annual budget is funded and organization has adequate cash flow. Oversee the development of financial strategic plans and actively participate in cultivation and solicitation visits with development staff and board members. Oversee Development staff to cohesively plan, support, and carry out the Resource Development requirements of BGCGSD. Oversees Foundation’s fundraising and growth of its donor base.

2. ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT

Provide inspiring leadership to the organization and ensure that the internal culture supports the mission and promotes synergy and collaboration across the organization. Effectively partner with the Board, staff, and other key constituencies to address complex problems and improve youth outcomes. Ensure the continued development and management of a professional and progressive organization, mentor staff and encourage their growth. Demonstrate an energetic, entrepreneurial nature that combines leadership and intellectual curiosity with practical management skills. Ensure establishment of and adherence to policies and procedures. Empower the Board of Directors, Club staff and volunteers to embolden the organization's mission, principles, purpose and presence in the local community. Ensure programs, services, and activities support youth development outcomes. Ensure productive and effective staff performance and manage the performance of management-level professionals. Manage the Foundation including preparation of reports, organization of Board meetings and execution of contracts.

STRATEGIC PLANNING

Oversee the strategic planning process and assist in implementing a quality strategic plan. Present quarterly progress reports, lead the annual strategic plan review, and assess and establish a three-year strategic plan. Oversee the identification and evaluation of opportunities for improvement and implement plans for improvements. Communicate regularly with Board of Directors as to progress, changes and developments with respect to goals in the strategic plan.

4. FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT AND OPERATIONS

Ensure all operations are strategically aligned with BGCGSD’ overall strategic plan, aligning all human and financial resources to ensure the highest impact and implementation. Assure the accuracy and integrity of BGCGSD' financial information, reporting and disclosure requirements, internal control and management information systems. Engage program staff to ensure that programs are aligned with the organization's vision, and are rigorously evaluated, creating maximum return on investment. Ensure development, implementation and monitoring of the Clubs' annual budget in collaboration with financial management staff. Ensure all necessary administrative and operational systems are in place to support effective operations. Regularly assess services and operations to ensure a sustainable model for the future. Oversee the construction and maintenance at all facilities. Be responsible for all facility leases and any other contractual obligations BGCGSD may have.

5. BOARD ENGAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT

Ensure the achievement of objectives established by the Board of Directors, including budget and strategic plan. Ensure active participation by Board members and support effective Board roles and functioning. Oversee staff liaisons to Board committees to ensure they are provided with the information and support necessary to fulfill their objectives. Maintain a transparent relationship with the Board, and work collaboratively with Board members to set the organization's strategic direction and policies. Work with both the Board and Foundation Board and staff leadership to identify, recruit, orient and develop new Board members and committee chairs that best fit the organization's values and growth objectives. Provide quarterly reports on all strategic, operational, and programmatic matters. Serve as a resource to the organization's board committees; ensure that all committees have goals and objectives; and facilitate the coordination and communication of committee work throughout the organization.

6. TECHNOLOGY

Ensure and lead the development and implementation of plans for updating existing technology and resources. Ensure and lead the acquisition and allocation of funds for implementing and updating existing technology and resources. Ensure and lead the maintenance of Club technology and information management systems.

PARTNERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

Inspire and engage potential and current donors, external community groups, parents, students, school officials, public officials, and other important constituencies to scale up the organization's impact and reach among youth, helping them to be successful and to be civically engaged in their communities. Develop collaborative partnerships with other education and youth-serving organizations, members, parents, families, funders, and community organizations. Establish strategic alliances with community leaders and government officials at the city, state, and federal levels.

8. MARKETING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS

Increase visibility of the BGCGSD programs, services and activities and maintain good public relations. Serve as the organization's primary spokesperson, brand champion and advocate to increase BGCGSD' visibility and reputation. Create recognition as a community 'go to' organization for youth services. Assess the opportunity and develop a plan to maximize the impact on the community independent of how the organization has previously operated. Maintain contact with Board of Directors, club staff, volunteers and club members. Maintain contact with potential and current donors, external community groups, school officials, parents and others as required. May be assigned special projects periodically by the Board of Directors. Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required. A minimum of ten years of senior leadership experience managing youth programs or operations in a non-profit agency, with multiple sites. Displays a strong commitment to youth development by creating supportive, engaging, and growth-oriented opportunities for young people. Thorough knowledge of the mission, objectives, policies, programs and procedures of youth-focused organizations and of management of non-profit organizations. Effective track record in the range of resource development activities and principles. Strong financial acumen, with the ability to develop, manage, and oversee complex budgets. Proven experience managing nonprofit budgets of $10 million or more, particularly within programs that serve children and youth. Good knowledge of asset management including financial resources and property. Successful experiences overseeing marketing and public relations activities. Demonstrated ability to plan and implement effective operations. Leadership skills, including negotiation, problem solving, and decision making. Strong formal and informal communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Board of Directors, staff, community groups, and other related agencies.
